Subject: Linux vs Vista
Hello! I have heard that Vista should be very secure and it could beat Linux.
And i have also heard that Linux is secure an Vista is it not. What I want
in this forum is argument both why Linux is better then Vista, and why Vista
is better then Linux. And I want fact from you and don't begginners talk like "Linux i much better
than vista". I will just see what you think about this.
//Thank you

I use both on the same machine, so I can compare them fairly well. I use windows to play games and download music. I use linux for application and web development as well as office use, web browsing, chatting, image editing, and anything else that is not windows-specific. I have not had an issue with security ever, although at least on the windows side, I know that the SpyBots program finds more little adware and other malware than the Windows Defender does. And linux is generally more performing and less resource-intensive - running memory usage, boot time to desktop, etc.
In short, I'm glad I have windows for compatibility reasons and vista has some very convenient features that give it an advantage over xp, but my OS of choice is Linux, Slackware over 2.6 kernel to be exact.
just in case you were wondering, my system specs are: Athlon 64 X2 4200+; 1GB DDR2 (dual channel); 200GB HDD (2x100GB Maxtor SATA-150); ECS mobo nForce4 chipset.
one hard drive has windows; the other hard drive is all linux: sdb1: data files then 4 linux distros and bsd plus swap space - lots of partitions.

I use XP just as a storage place since I keep on changing distros every now and then. At any point of time I have xp along with a minimum of 5 linux distros. I use XP just for video chatting for which linux has no software so far.Other than that I entirely rely on linux for email / browsing / audio / DVD playing /downloading / digicams etc.
