I want the ability to copy my dvd collection, run and store movies, and also have a drive that has music and family pictures.

So basically you want the ability to play DVDs and other movies, and access music and images on another drive. Any Linux distribution can play DVDs, MP3s, and all other kinds of multimedia files. You can easily access Windows partition/disks from Linux and write data to it. There are several applications that you can use to archive/manage/enjoy your photo collection. So, in the end, you can try any of Fedora, Ubuntu, Mandriva or OpenSUSE. Each of these has lots of applications to let you do whatever you want to do. Cheers!
