Subject: Trying to Install 171 updates to Ubuntu 7.04
When installing these updates I get the error message- E: dpkg interupted, you must manually run 'dpkg --configure -a to correct problem. E: -cache -> open () Failed, Please report. After entering dpkg --configure -a I get the message. dpkg: requested operation requires superuser privilage. I am a newbie and this is a new clean install. I am trying to install these updates so I can install the new Ubuntu 7.10 Any help of any kind would be mush appreciated. Tom

Hey Buddy! Ive never used a debian based system but if you could let me know what distro it is would be great. You may need to be logged in as ROOT. in terminal type "su" and enter the root password that you would have set on installing the OS. Kind Regards

OS X 10.4.11 and Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon 7.10, not forgetting fedora :D

Have you tried looged in as ROOT????

OS X 10.4.11 and Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon 7.10, not forgetting fedora :D

when I typed "su" in terminal and then the only password I have ever used in Ubuntu I get the message su: Authentication failure Sorry.

You should use sudo. So the command would be: sudo dpkg --configure -a Then enter the password and all should go well. Cheers!
