Subject: Get kernel to log end of resources
Hi We are running RHEL in some of our production environments and I want the kernel to log when resources are dried up. I know that if file-max is reached I get the line: "Too many open files in system" in my messages log. What can I expect the system to log in messages? Is there any list or documentation? Can I setup the kernel to log warnings when reaching some limits (eg. 80% of something), or is it something I need to build myself with sar, vmstat etc. ? Is there any tools or add-on (free or commercial) that can help us in monitoring the system with warnings and alarms more than just sa1 and sa2 in /etc/cron.d. Thanks Claes Lindvall Sweden

There are all kinds of application to monitor various system resources. You can, for instance, setup quota limits to monitor disk space usage. You might want to look here: http://www.kernel.org/ http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=64327 Cheers!
