The Linux Foundation has announced a new series of podcasts called Open Voices. Jim Zemlin, the foundation's executive director, plans to interview notable members of the Linux and open source communities, such as Novell CEO Ron Hovsepian, MySQL CEO Marten Mickos, and Ubuntu founder Mark Shuttleworth. The first podcast, an interview with Linux creator Linus Torvalds, is available on the Linux Foundation site in MP3 and Ogg formats.

Zemlin's inaugural interview explores Torvalds' motivation in creating and continuing his work on Linux. Among other things, Torvalds discusses the split between the open source and the free software communities, and how the latest version of the GNU General Public License -- GPLv3 -- reflects the delta between the two camps.

I can't check because the site is down, but I suspect it's available in MP3 and Vorbis formats, not MP3 and Ogg. Ogg is just a container.

When will linux.com start avoiding these schoolboy errors? It's not exactly hard.

The Linux Foundation displays two icons for its audio download. One is plainly marked Audio MP3. The other, Audio Ogg. By the way, the site is up.

So insightful, what a great contribution and such an important issue too.

Is this sarcasm, or is Mr. Barr's family astroturfing the comments?

Mister Barr is famous for outing astroturfers, not for being one.

That is a great interview with Linus. He is always entertaining to hear speak.
