hello world!

New site, new user, and new laptop; what a combination

Wow. Just wow. The new site redesign is tasteful, functional, and all-around wonderful. It's about time that linux had a website that helps to alleviate that outdated concept that linux just isn't "pretty" or user-friendly.

That being said,  I got my HP Mini 1000 yesterday, and almost immediately dumped their MI software (based on the somewhat 'dated' Ubuntu 8.04, it seems) for Ubuntu Netbook Remix (since my last linux laptop broke a little while back), so this seems like a good time to emmerse myself in a growing linux community such as this.

I hope that I can contribute and help this site to grow!

Welcome !

Of course, this is my first post. I will dump all my Linux specific news items here and keep the rest (development and non-technical stuff) at my other blog.

I like the new Linux.com and I have high hopes for it! Thanks to all the people involved behind the scenes!

My tech blog: http://www.techsutram.com

I already own a tech blog.

It can be reachable at http://www.techsutram.com or http://techsutram.blogspot.com

Intro

OK .. so this is my very first attempt at a 'techlog'.. as u will probably come to realise very quickly, as i have far more questions than answers!

However, in the spirit of the  movement i thought i would simply publish the trials and tribulations that i go through in my attempt to get to a stage where i can delete the WIN partition .. *smile*

Random thoughts

I was surprised to get a beta invite to Linux.com, my being a new user and all. I was impressed with the site right off the bat and happy it was set up as a community site, very cool.

First day live and membership is just skyrockting! Heres to a great new site.

Linux.com is finally here!!!

...came back home today after taking two final exams this morning (philosophy & sociology) and jumped on Facebook right away. First thing I saw was the announcement on Linux Foundation page that Linux.com finally launched! Rushed to the site, registered ... and I am here! Uploaded some pictures, joined couple of groups, invited friends - did all the usual social-network stuff and, most importantly, started this blog. I realized that I can finally talk about my crazy gentoo experiences somewhere ... where people might actually be interested!

Next entry: who I am? why blog? why gentoo? ...

Linux.com Beta

I don't get that many emails so a beta invite from one of my favourite Linux websites made my day. I am not under the impression that invites were at all exlusive but it is really cool to know I can play a part in creating Linux.com, the soon-to-be one stop shop and cover-page for the world's best Operating System that brings power to the fingertips of corporations and the poorest of people alike.

I have obviously found that my account has a blog attached to it - I hope there is some way to be able to pull from my ddevnet.net blog or even feed to my ddevnet.net blog automatically... that would be a cool feature.

The blog editor is quite good, but I had problems (crashes) when I first opened it in konqueror, so this will most likely be addressed soon (if you make use of http://beta.linux.com/bug-report !).
