In order to check if the Ubuntu Netbook remix would be suitable for my wife parents I set myself to test it on a Virtual Machine or on laptop (which is running Karmic since Alpha one).
I started at http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download-netbook. There isn't an iso available to download, but an img file. This isn't surprising as the targeted hardwares (in many cases) have flash memory instead of hard drives. The image file is designed for Atom processors as they dominate the market (damn it).

I managed to get an Acer Aspire One a couple months back for £150 brand new. I was interested to see what Acer's Linpus Lite was like and what I found was shocking.
Acer's edition of Linpus Lite is a horrifically simplified interface, almost as if it were designed for children. A few big icons in 4 categories, and that's it. I never did find out if I could actually install anything else. I was also astonished to find that Firefox was only version 2, and so was OpenOffice. Overall, it was a very disappointing experience, and naturally I wiped the whole thing off and installed the awesome Ubuntu Netbook Remix.

Wow. Just wow. The new site redesign is tasteful, functional, and all-around wonderful. It's about time that linux had a website that helps to alleviate that outdated concept that linux just isn't "pretty" or user-friendly.
That being said, I got my HP Mini 1000 yesterday, and almost immediately dumped their MI software (based on the somewhat 'dated' Ubuntu 8.04, it seems) for Ubuntu Netbook Remix (since my last linux laptop broke a little while back), so this seems like a good time to emmerse myself in a growing linux community such as this.
