can any game be played under wine on a linux system?
I got Farm Frenzy working using Crossover which in turn uses Wine. You can download it free from Myplaycity.com.The graphics on the completion scene were a little messed but the game worked perfectly.
I dual-booted my Windows gaming machine a couple of months ago and I have installed the Windows Steam client, but simply added my existing Windows drive as a repository and can run quite a few of the games with no extra configuration. Here are the results so far:
Games that work perfectly:
GTA Vice City
GTA San Andreas
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl
Left 4 Dead
Hitman: Codename 47
Hitman 2: Silent Assassin
Far Cry - Very high detail but anti-aliasing switched off
Games that work fine, but performance is slower than in Windows:
TES IV: Oblivion -- sluggish in 1080p
TES V: Skyrim -- sluggish in 1080p
Mass Effect - works well, a little slow.
Games that do not work:
Mafia 2 - could not start
The Witcher - loaded to menus but game did not start
Metro 2033 - fails to start, just first splash screen and sound for 1 second. There is a native version Metro 2033 Redux, but I do not own that and don't want to pay for it again... I do own Metro Last Light though which is native to Linux :)
