Link to this post 12 Nov 13

I have ubuntu downloaded and uncompressed on a dvd. The disc runs fine in windows up to the point where i click to install. The window comes up saying extracting files from the disc, when this is nearly finished - error. (bugger).

It wont boot from the disc. So i am at a loss as to how to proceed. Please advise, i will be very greatful for any advice.

BTW, i have tried on two laptops, one with vista and one with win7.

You don't just uncompress to a disk, you "burn an iso". Burning an iso is a special operation which creates a Linux bootable disk.
