New Mepis releases kde4 & kde3 support

It's nice to know that the Mepis folks still care about their user base, especially the ones that still like the look and feel of the KDE3 desktop. While their SimplyMEPIS 8.5 will feature the new KDE4 desktop, a long term release of SimplyMEPIS 8.0 will still feature KDE3.
I know KDE4 is the future, but, it is hard using a computer to get work done when your Window Manager is still a work in progress. Since switching to Gnome back in the spring of 2009, I keep checking to see if it's safe to use KDE again, but, I'm still waiting. Obviously, the Mepis dev (Warren) has decided it is time, and I applaud him for waiting. His concern has always been to keep Mepis simple for the new user, and he has succeeded by waiting until KDE4 became a bit more stable. And I have to admit, it is a lot better now than it was a year ago.
Then again, for those new Linux users that just got used to KDE3, it's also nice to know that they won't be forced to switch to a new Desktop, after becoming comfortable with the old KDE.
Freedom of Choice still lives at Mepis, along with a helpful and friendly community, Thanks.

I experimented with Mepis just to find out what all the fuss about KDE was about. I wanted a rock-stable Debian-based distro to explore KDE on, and Mepis was it. Awesome, easy, and solid, with a wonderful, friendly community. It's a definite recommend for newbies just coming to Linux from Windows or Mac. I decided I don't like KDE (and on my old hardware I need something really lightweight), but I still have a soft spot for Mepis. I'm glad to hear it still rocks the house!
