    Without reading the link, if youre a hardcore gamer stay on Windowsm but if you can live with a smaller libarary of games and ability to get the rest of the software you need for free then go Linux/Ubuntu

    Well i dropped win8.1 on my probook aswell for Ubuntu, still lack some games but im a casual gamer so its cool. But hopefully we will see more and more releases at the same time as pc versions in the future since SteamOs is out and Linux is growing

    Well unetbootin and make an cd or usb stick to start from. easiest way to test it out, but keep in mind that even if somethings messed up in live mode doesnt mean it is that way once installed. And once installed theres probably alot of workarounds :)

    I have to recomennd Fuduntu, now completetly forked from Fedora but still uses .rpm for packages. Great for laptops since it got Jupiter applet, and ATI gfx cards works like a charm. http://fuduntu.org Jupiter http://www.jupiterapplet.org/

    Welcome :) Well saving that old computer sounds great, i have also done that with an old laptop, managed to run it fast and stable using Crunchbang. Thats the beauty of Linux.
