Have you tried using the System>>Preferences>>Display to change your resolution?

What is the current resolution set to?
What version of Unbuntu are you using?

What distros have you tried?
Why did you settle on Mint?
This might give us direction to steer you toward.

I'm looking for a way to find the current audio device to get raw input from a receiver plugged into the audio input of any sound board. Someone have a pointer to C/C++ code for doing this?
