My recommendation, stick with Toshiba, dell, HP and Asus. They work great.

The Thinkpads are well know for its linux compatibility.
That was one that I forgot to mention.
Toshiba, is suspect. I am using a Toshiba with ubuntu 10.10 installed. Works great, compared to vista installed on the same system.

I have three toshibas at home and everything in them works well in linux but the card readers :S
