I was just wondering if there was a way to get a KDE style working on gnome, and vice versa. Just have the look, without all the apps.

The answer would be to boot from a LIVE CD/DVD. That would run the KDE environment without installing anything.

Probably. You need to play with your desktop setup. You can move the task/menu bars around, etc. Make it suit your personal style preferences.
