openSUSE 11.2 is scheduled to be officially released in about a week (give or take a few hours…) and, as usual, we’re gearing up to press a bunch of media for shows and the ambassadors.

Typically Novell has created the artwork for the openSUSE DVDs, but this time around we had some really interesting and creative input from openSUSE contributors.

Here are the choices:

openSUSE Art Proposal 1

#1: DVD Cover 1

openSUSE Art Proposal 2

#2: DVD Cover 2

openSUSE Art Proposal 3

#3: DVD Cover 3

So, which one would you choose. Yes, I have a favorite. No, I’m not telling. Yes, there’s a ringer in the house…

Other details on the openSUSE DVDs:

  • You asked for 64-bit, you’ve got it! We’re creating dual-sided media for openSUSE so that we have 32-bit media on one side, 64-bit on the other. This will be especially handy for folks (like me) who have a smattering of 32-bit only hardware still laying around.
  • Live CDs: In the past, we’ve not created live CD media, but we wanted to provide some swag for GNOME and KDE specific events — so, we’re going to be creating a limited amount of live CDs that we will provide at events.

After the 11.2 release we’ll provide details on how to get media for events and so on. Sorry, we’re unable to handle individual orders for openSUSE DVDs. If you don’t want to mess with downloading openSUSE for your personal use and don’t need a full retail kit, I’d recommend checking out On-Disk.com or CheapBytes. Information on retail boxes will be forthcoming soon.

Definitely DVD Cover 3

I have worked extensively with openSUSE over the past year and the images within DVD Covers 1 and 2 are becoming sore to the eyes.

DVD Cover 3 is clean, fresh, and doesn't scream at its viewer.
If anything DVD Cover 3 comes across as very professional.

Thanks Zonker for allowing us to contribute to the decision making process smilies/smiley.gif

Cover 3 gets 3 of 5 and cover I get 2 of 5. Cover 2 does not cut it.
