Rare Jon 'maddog' Hall video interview - and an even rarer maddog video speech excerpt

He's a popular guy, that maddog. And with good reason. It's a little surprising that there is nary a video of him speaking to be seen anywhere on the Web. So here you go, video-lovers and maddog fans. These videos are for you.

I've heard Jon 'maddog' Hall speak many times. He's always fun and interesting and always has something fresh to say. He also almost always has some interesting company that's paying him to help promote its products or attract developers to its open source projects, too.

One important thing maddog does in almost every speech is remind us all that "Linux" is a registered trademark, and that people who want to use it as part of a business name should register with the Linux Mark Institute, which is now part of The Linux Foundation.

(Linux.com received permission to use the name "Linux.com" directly from Linus Torvalds many years ago, before the Linux Mark Institute was founded.)

The first video is a short interview. If it sounds like two old friends talking, that's because maddog and I have known each other for about 10 years now, and have spoken at or attended many of the same conferences, but he'll be just as affable toward you if and when you meet. He is a seriously friendly person. This video is about five and a half minutes long.

The second video is an excerpt of maddog speaking to about 180 people at the Florida Linux Show on February 11. This video is a bit over 22 minutes -- and worth every bit of that time.

I've said before, and will say again, if you see maddog scheduled to speak at a conference, and there's any way you can get to that conference... GO!

You can download the slides to the presentation he gave right here.

(I''m the guy at the podium right before Maddog's talk on thin clients)

I just wanted to chime in and say thanks to Roblimo for taking this video and posting it. Maddog's presentation was great--especially in regards to the amount of power that the next 1 billion PCs will need (if humanity chooses that route). If we can get pervasive high-speed wireless Internet *everywhere* thin clients (particularly portable ones) will become a lot more pervasive.

Craving for more?

Here's a video of Maddog speaking (~40min) at Linux 15 years seminar a bit more than a year ago. The page is in finnish, but you can find the link easily in the bottom.
