The first time I ever saw Mandrake Linux (now Mandriva) was on a retail store shelf. That was probably 9 years ago and to be honest in the last few years I personally haven't seen Mandriva running much..

Ubuntu and to a lesser extent Fedora fail miserably on both counts in my experience.
(same for ~all the Ubuntu and Fedora derived dists)
(Sorry, not intended as flamebait, just my experience from MANY years of trying)
Having said that, I suspect the only QA/usability testers on this release have been running KDE4 since first alpha...
Now if I can just find a decent tutorial on KDE4.1 so I can figure out WTF the KDE guys were thinking...
It IS fast, LOOKS great, but should really run a tutorial on startup, as it's ~nonobvious how it's supposed to be used efficiently.
Dolphin can't even (click on) run an executable or open a shell in current dir as configured, and I have yet to figure out the point of the very limited (but neat looking) "desktop" sub window thing.
Konqueror also isn't set up as a usable file manager (as confgured)
Amarok 2 beta can no longer "save as" bookmarks to an external file... Took a bit of poking to get it to work, sorta. It will no longer just load and play an m3u file apparently, although the system fires off Amarok properly, it just... sits there.
