Setting up a PHP/MySQL/Apache2 environment on Debian is really easy. I’ll walk through a quick setup and optimization process. I’ve optimized it for a 1.5Gb to 2GB RAM machine with reasonable load.

Just my opinion and YMMV but I think that a number of people would benefit from Lighttpd ("Lighty") in contrast to Apache. The benefits are a dramatic decrease in overhead with a significant increase in speed. Using Drupal, the only downside that I have experienced is some difficulty with TinyMCE.

That said, the migration requires testing on a local machine first as Lighty has a very different configuration approach. It's not arcane nor difficult - just very different so there is a learning curve.
