Subject: linux install

Installing Lenox Ubuntu ,Is it normall on install to stop at -configuring language pack -en base for like two hrs. Only have ntfs know how , do not know what is healthy on an install for ubuntu.

depends on what your machine's specs are... if it's a desktop and you've bought it in the past... five or seven years, yes there's something worng.

you may have downloaded a curropted iso or damaged disc
try and download the alternate CD, no live desktop, just a plain install CD and burn at the lowest possible setting.

What machine do you have payton? I'm assuming it's an old machine with not much RAM. If memory serves, I saw a thread over at the Ubuntu forums [1] and some guy who had 4GB RAM said it had taken about 25 minutes or so for configuring language-pack-en base stage to complete.

So, it is a bit slow. there are plenty of such threads and a google search reveals that a bug has been filed as well.

And the problem is not limited to Ubuntu, because one of the results google threw at me was of a guy having the same problem with Xubuntu. So, if you can be patient and you're very keen on Ubuntu, just let it take however long it takes :)
