Subject: running installers on linux

i got a new computer that i am trying to put windows on. i like Linux, but i also need windows for compatibility with other systems. My computer will not boot from the windows installation CD i have, but if i put it in a system already running windows the installation screen pops up. i want to know if there are any free versions of Linux that could run the installer so i could get windows on this computer.

If you put in another bootable CD (a Linux CD for example) does it boot off that ? If not, try going into your BIOS (usually the Delete key, or F1, it should say when it boots, but it tends to disappear quickly) and making sure that you've got the CD/DVD drive listed as a bootable device. If it is, check that it's plugged in properly.

Update: Just for future reference, this is a Linux forum... If you do post questions like this, post them in the "Miscellaneous Discussion" forum, rather than the "New to Linux" forum.

the computer will boot up off other disks. I have run DSL, Puppy Linux, and SLAX on the machine. i just want to know if there are any Linux programs or versions that could be used to run the windows installer.
