Subject: Wireless modem routers

From a newbie.

Can anyone advise me of a make or model of modem router that works as well under Linux as with Windows, or maybe more to the point, are there any to avoid. Is there any real difference? Which ones are easier to set up?

I've got Fedora installed on a laptop haven't decided if it will me my final distro yet and I am willing to change if there is a distro that will make setting up easier.

I'm assuming you're talking about the actual router here, and not a wireless card/dongle (assumed from the thread name). The router will serve wireless according to some standards set out by the IEEE (it's not important to know them, just that it's standardized), so the router wont make a difference to the wireless.
So, to answer the question, no it wont make a bit of difference to Linux which router you buy.
The main issue is with the encryption (again, a standard, not unique to a router) - WEP works fine in Linux, WPA (a more secure encryption) can cause problems, and often requires more fiddling to get working.
Hope that helps you out, if not ask!

Thanks Penguin. Going to go ahead and order one and see how it goes. May be calling upon your expertise at a later date.
