Subject: just installed fedora, fail to see how it is bleeding edge?

i have used ubuntu up until now i just installed fedora 9 and i fail to see how it is bleeding edge? it has most applications ubuntu does but has more annoying tendancies
like firefox scroll lag, i didnt have this in ubuntu
i do appreciate the encryption upon installation however but how can i make it so that i can log in automatically? it asks me for my password for the encrypted file system then i must re-enter it to log in !
any help would be appreciated ;)

oh one last thing when i set it to shut-down it doesn't it just hangs on a blank screen

I believe it's that you can download the latest versions of stuff when they get out, rather than a little more stable release for Ubuntu...

Yes. Fedora is "bleeding edge" because it releases updates to packages as soon as they become available. The lag time is much shorter than it is for Ubuntu. That might not be for everyone. I run Kubuntu on a couple of machines, but my work machines all run Fedora because I appreciate and need updates for various packages that Fedora makes available.
And a note about the conveniences of Ubuntu, such as automatic login. These are conveniences, and are not terribly secure. Many of the readers in this forum probably don't have to worry about such issues, and hence Ubuntu is fine, and they can be implemented in other distributions. But again, these are nearly standard Unix policies, and there's nothing wrong with distributions adhering to them.
