Subject: Wireless internet problems

I have Fedora 7 installed on a Toshiba laptop and got it connected to the internet without too much bother via the laptop's Ethernet port. The laptop also has a wireless connection which I have tried to set up and got it activated in Network configuration.

The laptop can identify the wireless device (Atheros AR5005G). I've used both auto and manually set up IP addresses, entered the Key that I gave the router and double checked it but can't get the wireless connection going.

Is there something I'm missing out?

I'd check the key first. Be sure that you have identified it correctly as WPA or WEP, Ascii or hex. Does the device identify the router, i.e. does it detect the router and its ESSID?

If your Laptop is configured to connect to a given wireless router (acts as a gateway) then you may want to make sure:
1) The wirelless connection (in the router) is enable.
2) Most of Wireless routers serve as DHCP servers. Given that is the case then leave the IP address configuration feature to Auto. Because, your laptop will pick up the IP address provided by the router.
3) There is a good chance that you may need to power on/off the router. Regards, Y4Net.
