Subject: problem with route and usb wlan adapter

hi, i have a linksys route, model No. WRT54G and a Netgear 54 Mbps wireless USB 2.0 adapter, Since i have installed Ubuntu i cant go wireless any more!!
when i attach my pc to the linksys route with a cable i have no problems to go online, However when i insert the usb adapter it just does not work, any tips for a novice on how to get online wireless would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance

First things first. We need to make sure that your USB wifi adapter is being seen by the OS.

Plug it into you computer wait a few seconds then as root (you might be able to do it as a normal user, depends on how Ubuntu does things) open a console and type 'dmesg'.

We'll be interested in the last 100 lines or so. Post those here and we can go from there.

sorry, I completely lost track of this. Seems like your machine sees the usb adapter just fine. Do you have the wireless tool installed 'iwconfig' and such? Did you configure your box to connect to the ssid of your wireless?

With a Realtek device using the 8187 chipset, you're out of luck on Ubuntu 8.04 without resorting to ndiswrapper, afaik.

Subject: problem with route and usb wlan adapter

hey, but ndiswrapper is perfectly all right, just today I finally got my wireless working using solely ndiswrapper, and then just tweaking the actual network settings. Good stuff!
