Subject: Stability of Dump w/ Kernal 2.6.11

I'm curious if anyone is using dump to perform backups in production with the 2.6 kernel and LVM2. I've found some reports that dump is not stable however the messages where dated 5-6 years back. I'm running Fedora Core 4 and Dump was included as part of the distro making me think that it is indeed stable. Any comments?

I use dump and restore all the time (currently running it with 2.6.24) and I've never had a problem with it. I've used it on many multiple machines running different kernels, distros and such and seems to have been stable.

The fact that you're using it on an LVM partition *shouldn't* matter since it only does work at a filesystem level. Normally I use ext3, so as long as you're using a sane filesystem, I would think you'd be fine.
