Any way to do this using Linux especially Ubuntu?

I want to make my computer a media center and hook it into my cable and have it output to my tv. I'm not worried about the connection.

What I'm wondering is if there is any way to have a program like media center for linux. I want it to be able to record tv like a TiVo/DVR, somehow manage my dvd's (let me rip them to the hard drive so I can play them back without the disc), and possibly integrate a remote (not the end of the world if I can't run it from remote control).

I was going to use a Hauppage card for input, and my output is going to be S-Video to my TV (older tv non high def). I will run the sound out of the pc into my receiver and through my speakers.

Anyone know how to do this? I'd prefer to not have to acquire a copy of Windows Media Center as I prefer Linux.

You can use Myth TV. I use it. Mythbuntu is a full featured media center. You will need a cable to computer adapter and MythBuntu will act as the DVR.

For DVD ripping i use DVD::Rip. If I want to make DVD back ups I use k9copy. To burn I use k3b. I convert avi, mepg, etc files into a .iso that will burn for DVD player use with DeVeDe.

I convert TS_ folders into .iso files qwith AcetoneIso2.

You can check out the Mythbuntu home site here.
http://www.mythbuntu.org/

You can add it into your Ubuntu computer or run it as a standalone on a dedicated home theater PC.

You can get support for it on Ubuntu forums and Ubuntu IRC support chats.
