I'm having the same problem and that tutorial didn't help me. I couldn't get PengAOL to compile under Ubuntu 8.04. I've also tried Penggy which is succesfully logging me into my dial-up AOL account, but gives me an error. Output below:

i dont think you can use AOL software on linux.. I also have aol. you can access all your AOL screenames from www.aol.com or www.aol.co.uk.

I have set my home page on firefox as aol.co.uk, and i just sign in on that page to whatever screename i want on AOL.
