Subject: running windows based programs

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I use The Adobe Creative Suite CS 3, Rhino 3-D_4, Corel Painter X, Autodesk 3-D Studio Max 9, and light Wave.I have already bought all this software which I need and I am use too and use daily.
I've gotten other posts and people hav said they can't be run through linux.

What really is the benifit if Linux can't run any or much windows based software? (other then the obvious FREEWARE aspect)as well as e-mail and word processing.

How are windows games able to work on linux?

Running Windows software is not the purpose of Linux. That's what Windows is for. Linux is a separate and independent operating system, with its own software. Having said that, the Wine project does provide the capability of running a lot of Windows software. It can be found here

If you really are interested in using Linux, I would suggest looking for native Linux software with the capabilities that you are interested in. For example, look at

And do not confuse open source and free (as in speech) software with freeware. The two are distinct. And finally, there is excellent commercial software available for Linux. My particular favourite, and one vital to what I do, is Mathematica
