Subject: Aspire One with Linux stopped loading, help
Hi, i have purchased this laptop today, never used linux before:)
When i loaded the pc, i have connected it to my wnetwork, then i was asked if i want to download updates on linux
Afer installing it, system asked for reboot and after pressing rebbot button it freezed so i pressed the on/off button for several sec (like we do on windows)
I went off and now i only get to aspire one logo on the screen and then it becomes black with "X" displayed on it and that's it
Any suggestions
Thank you in advance

First point: NEVER press the on/off button for several seconds, on _any_ computer, not even Windows. That is a last resort method for restarting a machine and will almost always result in the accumulation of small errors or occasionally, a large scale error. What was the indication that the system was frozen? And is the X a large graphic X, or is it a small x icon?
Do you, or any reader here, know which distribution is installed on the machine?
Also, you should check out

If you can get a copy of this, you should be able to boot the machine, and then maybe go from there.
Take the red pill

Hi there again, when i pressed reboot on live update window it just freezed, even after a minute it was at the same stage that's why i pressed on/off..
It is a small graphic x, like 5mm x 5mm.
It is Linpus Lite on the machine, BIOS v0.3109 if it is any help
I have a recovery cd with the machine but i don't have a cd-rom so before buying one i want to make sure there is no other way to restore it
Thank you

had this problem with mine, i'm also very new to this os but i did have to re-install from the recovery dvd, if you have access to a main pc i believe the you may be able to tun the recover via network boot....worth a go but buying an ext dvd/cd rom is the easiest answer. that or usb stick and copy the dvd on to it.
