Subject: damn small linux Great choice for

Hi
I'm new to linux and DSL is the first linux I can actually use, so I' like to coment you:

- for new users it is very good because it runs without any user intervention or configuration.(it might be good for advanced users but they are to tell that :D)
- runs in very old computers (i used a p2 ibm laptop with a live cd)
- it has several applications so one can take a firs look to linux without crashing all arround
- It gives you the chance to try command lines, ssh and stiff like that without problems.
- it can run within windows!

I tried of course to use some other distros before, but I didn't want to stop using my mac or my regular pc, so I started testing in this old lap. Therefore the only distros I could only use were puppy linux and dsl, but i liked the last one better.

Have a good day!

Compaq Armada 1540 DM , 144hz, 64mb ram,2 gig H/D.
Xircom CEM-100 10/100 PCMCIA Ethernet/Phone jack Cardbus
Netgear MA401 PCMCIA Wireless B 16bit Cardbus
Running installed Current 2008 Damn Small Linux.

Also installed and ran Puppy 2.15CE on it with same Cardbuses.
Wired and Wireless works with both distros.
Runs a full GUI with apt get in DSL. Slackware repositories.
Puppys Pupget package manager worked also.

Now starting to see if CDLinux will run on this dinosaur.

Will check out Slitaz also. Not smart enough yet to dive into Slackwares Vanilla Kernel yet, but it can happen.

Have a good day yourself KEE.

I use DSL on a 166MHz P1 MMX laptop installed on the hard-drive. Works great! I enabled everything, making it pretty much a full debian install, and it still runs quicker than windows 2000 on this old machine. I now use this laptop daily for regular internet, office, and photo viewing tasks. I like that I can choose either fluxbox or JWM for the windows manager and have fell in love with fluxbox.
