Home Learn Linux Linux Answers Hardware How do I install a Canon Pixma MP282 printer with Kubuntu 11.10?
Answers
  • Most probably there is no proper driver for MP282.... as u may see here: www.openprinting.org/printers/manufacturer/Canon
    but at least u can try here to dnld the driver and install the same:
    software.canon-europe.com/products/0010884.asp, this is 280 series but it worked as on my SuSE Linux for same printer model. Providing this page may help u.

    If the above driver will not work, u may get on-line support from :
    www.canon.com.au/Support-Services/Online-Support

  • Try to plug-in your printer to your system first. If a driver for your model is available, the system will recommend the driver for you and assist you in the installation. If not, click this link Your text to link here...

    Once, you have downloaded the .tar file, uncompress it.
    $ tar -x MP280series_printer_driver.tar
    $ tar -xzf cnijfilter-mp280series-3.40-1-deb.tar.gz
    $ cd cnijfilter-mp280series-3.40-1-deb
    $ sudo ./install.sh

    Once the driver gets installed successfully, try to re-plug you Canon
    printer to your Kubuntu system.

    Enjoy!

  • Canon has installation files available for this printer on their support site. I found the set by choosing Linux on the drop down appearing on the following site:

  • I did a search on canon.com and the reply was this: "There is no software for the OS Version you selected." I have one of these printers too, and have the same problem, but can use it with my other computers, using Windows OS.
