U Wanna see ur DVDs thru Linux, though u didn't mention here which flavor u r using !! However, what kind of files r there, like .mkv / .avi / .mpg / .mov .vob blah blah..... Linux doesn't support 3rd party tools / SW cause to licensing and security issues. Why u r using WINE, is there any Windows apps !! Is the dvd has some .exe files! U can try it with VLC media player / MPlayer which supports almost all formats to run any type of video files. Though some audio/video codecs installation is necessary to run smoothly. |

I have already tried viewing with VLC, Movie Player and Gnome. Wine is the error message. I am not trying to view it through that. That's what pops up when I insert the dvd. I am using Linux Mint 10, that's what my friend installed and now he's disappeared. This has been an ongoing issue, we can't play games or view movies or install anything. I have tried to use the terminal to install through the exe or setup and its' not recognising and says its not executable. Any suggestions? |

You probably have a built in viewer program on the DVD that would usually run on a Windows machine and let you control the video. Cancelling that and then manually opening the video in VLC by browsing the mounted DVD should work. |
