If there is dual booting, then u can do whatever u thought. If u format pc and fresh linux install, then there is no way ! Hope, u heard about chainLoader in /boot/grub/menu.lst. See here the Q & Ans session: |

So long as you install Linux as a dual-boot system you should be fine. The various Linux distros are very good about sensing other partitions on the same drive(s) and leaving them alone. There is, of course, the obligatory caution that _anytime_ you do something as serious as installing an OS of any flavor that you back up anything you might need, personal files, whatever.
