  • Best answer try a live CD.. Best suggestions Linux Mint or Ubuntu.. If you have modern hardware both those come with great support and can run youtube and surf net with firefox or chrome/chromium... Document word editing or excel is libre office in linux but works just as good completely free.. If your live CD runs then you can install it Installing doesnt take few long answer a few questions and your good to go!

  • I don't know that "simple" is the way I'd put it. I don't believe modern Linux distributions are any more difficult than Windows, but Linux is NOt Windows and is going to be a different experience. If you are used to Windows, the learning curve is sometimes more difficult as you need to learn a new way to do things and the tools go by different names than what you're used to on Windows.

    I think one of the largest obstacles to the adoption of Linux is that people have put a lot of time and effort into learning Windows, Windows isn't all that simple, and just the thought of learning a new way to do things is more than they want to deal with.
