  • In my experience, i would point you toward Linux Mint. Its easy to use and has everything you need out of the box. Www.linuxmint.com. Good luck! Its actually beginning to outdo Ubuntu.

  • I would agree with Linux Mint as a first choice for a new person to linux... Fedora or Linux Mint Debian might be a good next step after you play around with mint. Ubuntu is good too but the direction they're going can feel dis-enfranchising

  • Another vote for Mint - why?

    It's a true desktop not a cludge tablet, mac, desktop like gnome3 and unity. So if you like menus, bars, system trays etc then you'll like Cinnamon (or other desktops Mint supports). Basically it just does everything you want easily.

    Its based on Ubuntu which is based on Debian so you have all (almost) of the software available for those distros. 15 is very stable as was 14. Like Ubuntu you get current software packages unlike Debian stable. It has good "type the program name support" from the menu but if you like the powerful character search facilities of Unity just add Synapse.

  • Generally, Linux freshers can start with Ubuntu. But u can also start with Suse Linux. Actually it depends what kind of job u want to do.....
