Home Learn Linux Linux Answers Networking Can I install linux on an almost bare xp system?
  • Its depends on what you want.

If you want to wipe XP & install Linux that is easy. Just use new linux cd with distro of your choice & go through the install instructions. Make sure to use all space on Hard Disk or delete the partitions used by XP install.

If you want to boot linux & XP side by side, then use the above process. but don't delete the partitions created by XP. just use the unused space & create partitions for linux on it. It will automatically detect XP & create an entry in Grub so that you'll get the option to boot from either of them.

You can also make use of live CD or usb. you'll not have to temper with your Hard Disk.

    hope it helps..
