Home Learn Linux Linux Answers Distributions Which Linux Distro is for me?
  • I work from many years with the OpenSUSE linux distribution and I think that it could be perfect for you. I use it also on computers very similar to yours. Don't know very well Linux Mint, I saw and tried it on a friend's pc, but I think it's also a good option. I do not recommend Ubuntu, its reputation is totally undeserved respect to the two distributions I have mentioned. I wish you a good time with Linux!

  • Most modern distro's should run just fine on that CPU. While it is old and outdated, the Linux kernel has very low system requirements and thus most distro's have low requirements (compared to Windows).

Linux Mint should run without any problems, your biggest deciding factor would be what DE (desktop environment) you wish to run on top of mint. Either MATE or Cinnamon should run with little to no lag.
