    Try linux mint. I have installed the latest version and it runs on a 9 year old notebook (with RAM upgrade) like a charm!

  • If you are very new to linux, go with Linux Lite or one of the Zorin OS options. Linux Mint is excellent too although it may require slightly more effort for a newbie to setup up in a way which is similar to XP.
