Home Learn Linux Linux Answers Systems Management How to install Ubuntu and have it get along well with Windows?
  • You've done half the work already. You can install Ubuntu to the second hard drive and it will be perfectly happy. When you install it, it will install a boot manager called GRUB which will allow you to dual boot, meaning you can choose to bring your system up under Windows or under Ubuntu. To be able to see the Linux disk from Windows, make sure you format the drive during the Ubuntu install using NTFS or FAT as your filesystem type. If any of this is confusing, there are several good guides on installing Ubuntu that you can google.

  • During the instalation you can select to install Ubuntu side by side with windows.

Doing so will create an folder in your windows partition called Ubuntu,Which you can use to access your Ubuntu files with.
Same goes vice versa there is a windows partition inside Ubuntu.
