try this to get os specific information
    ls /etc/*-release #if succesful then
    cat /etc/-release
    or
    lsb_release -a
    --------------------------------------
to get information about the kernel
    uname -a
    or
    cat /proc/version
latter command also prints the version of the compiler used to compile the kernel
