128 mb ram is very less for a ubuntu distro. |

Xubuntu is the one you want. The laptop will work ok for emails and word processing, if a little bit slow. YouTube videos would be a bit choppy. |

I run PuppyLinux 4.3.1 on an old Dell Latitude 266 with only 128 MB. It is very fast, and should be quite useful for your general purposes. The installation is a little quirky if you're used to Debian or Fedora or other mainstream distros, but I'm betting its about the only thing that'll really run well on your old NEC. The installation process is pretty well documented at the site. SliTaz is another small distro that you might like, butI had some issues with sound and video on my old Dell, and Puppy was easier for me. |
