Why Revenues for Developers Matter in the Android/iOS War

In our recent post on how the iPad2 is going to increase the level of competition with alternative tablet devices, particularly Android tablets, we noted that the application ecosystem will be critical in how users choose between tablets. Time and time again, from the early PC market to the smartphone market, it has been shown that the success of hardware platforms depends on a rich ecosystem of applications. In response to our post, some readers made astute points about differences between Apple's iOS app development system and the parallel ecosystem for Google's Android OS. Developers at large are also weighing on these important differences. Does Apple, in fact, run a better app ecosystem than many give the company credit for?
