I broke down and bought a Nexus One last week.
I got the original G1 phone from google when it came out, and I hardly ever used it. Why? I generally hate phones - they are irritating and disturb you as you work or read or whatever - and a cellphone to me is just an opportunity to be irritated wherever you are. Which is not a good thing.
At the same time I love the concept of having a phone that runs Linux, and I've had a number of them over the years (in addition to the G1, I had one of the early China-only Motorola Linux phones) etc. But my hatred of phones ends up resulting in me not really ever using them. The G1, for example, ended up being mostly used for playing Galaga and Solitaire on long flights, since I had almost no reason to carry it with me except when traveling.
But I have to admit, the Nexus One is a winner. I wasn't enthusiastic about buying a phone on the internet sight unseen, but the day it was reported that it finally had the pinch-to-zoom thing enabled, I decided to take the plunge. I've wanted to have a GPS unit for my car anyway, and I thought that google navigation might finally make a phone useful.
And it does. What a difference! I no longer feel like I'm dragging a phone with me "just in case" I would need to get in touch with somebody - now I'm having a useful (and admittedly pretty good-looking) gadget instead. The fact that you can use it as a phone too is kind of secondary.

Now I have HTC Hero with Android, and I need to install additional programs to use Hero as a navigator. However, all this problems are only for Russia, not for USA.

... @Rodion ... Android 2.0 added Navigation in the Google Maps application... also... if you don't have the latest version of Google Maps on your HTC Hero, you can root it and you can install Android 1.6 or newer (Like this one: http://forum.xda-developers.co...p?t=611117) on it so you can get the latest version of Google Maps on your HTC Hero.

. I'm used to Win mo and Symbian. I prefer Win mo over Symbian any day because of XDA developers and all the tweaks you get there. Because I am a gadget-geek I'm now wanting an Android phone to try something new and I think with the app "My tracks", it will be a good running partner. With the ability of topographic maps it will be good companion on my hiking trips.

Here's the writeup I did on it (reiterated on hak5):

I had the iPhone 3G S for about 6 months. It's good, but not for power users. No multitasking, and closed to the bone (It's the Apple way or the highway)...
With the Nexus I'm able to listen to Pandora at the same time that I check my calendar, browse the web or use it as GPS. The Nexus One is also faster than the iPhone 3G S. And I paid only 180.00 for the Nexus when I got my T-Mobile account.
After 3 weeks of using my Nexus One, here are the applications that I have found the most useful (besides the included ones):
Pandora Radio, the ssh client "ConnectBot", the "Better Terminal Emulator Pro" (no need to jailbreak to get vi : ), Pure Calendar Widget, Listen, Places directory, barcode scanner, voice recorder and advanced task killer.
Linus,
Let me know what applications you find the most useful.
