At least 10 stuffed penguins are hidden around the world and are waiting to be found and adopted by you. hidden tux photo 400x400

As the Linux mascot, the Tux penguins represent freedom, collaboration and innovation and are what hundreds of thousands of people from every region in the world use to identify themselves as supporters of Linux . Now, you can show your support by finding tux and tweeting your “selfie” with the Linux mascot to @linuxfoundation with hashtag #hiddentux. Nearly one million Linux developers, sysadmins and enthusiasts will witness these pictures and inspiration across The Linux Foundation social channels and web properties.

Follow @linuxfoundation on Twitter and watch for clues that will help you find one of these 10 #hiddentux plush animals. When you tweet your picture with the #hiddentux hashtag you will receive two free tickets to the LinuxCon and CloudOpen event nearest you and be featured in a video later this year or in early 2015 that compiles all the pictures taken by people around the world with their #hiddentux. Plus, you get to keep your new furry friend and add it to your Tux collection.

HiddenTux TorontoThe first #hiddentux was located just 15 hours ago in Toronto, Canada and the first picture has been tweeted. Compeition is going to be fierce! We'll be in touch, @topherbreezy, with your prize.

This global treasure hunt is inspired by the recent #hiddencash craze that started in San Francisco in May and has spread to other cities like San Diego, New York, London, Fresno, Baltimore, D.C, and more.

The #hiddentux campaign aims to bring together the Linux community in celebration of the operating system that is helping to solving the world’s most complex problems, from One Laptop Per Child to CERN, the Human Genome Project, the Open Prosthetic Project, Local Motors and much, much more. We also hope it will help shine a light on Linux fans and supporters in different places all over the world.

Confirmed locations where Tux will be hiding include Japan, the U.S., the South Pacific, Europe and South Korea.

The first city and location of #hiddentux for which we'll be sharing clues today on Twitter is New York. So all of you New York Linux fans be looking out, or if you happen to be in the Big Apple over the next couple of weeks, keep an eye on @linuxfoundaton and you could clinch the win from the NY locals!
