Google has posted new statistics about its 2005 to 2009 Summer of Code (GSoC) contests which offer university students stipends to write and develop code for various open source projects. In a post to the Open Source at Google blog, Google Developer Relations Specialist Cat Allman confirms that a total of 591 schools, including 199 new schools, were represented for this years Google Summer of Code.
