Yes, it's a total redesign, with a whole new backend and many new features. There are still bugs here and there, which we're working to fix. If you spot any, please post them here. And general comments are welcome, too. What do you like or dislike about the new site? What features should we add? And what kind of articles would you like to see here? This isn't a formal poll done by a survey company. It's a dialog with the actual site editors and programmers, who will read (and possibly respond) to your comments right here.
The first thing you may notice if you try to comment is that you must now log in to do so, and if you already have a Linux.com user ID it will not work on the new site. If you have a SourceForge.net user ID, it will work here, though, and creating a new user ID will only take a second -- and will work on SourceForge.net, too. (Note that we ask for *very little* information to set up an account, and that we do not sell your email address and only send you email if you specifically request it.)
Finally! At last! Linux.com has actual, useful reader forums. Feel free to ask technical questions -- or to answer questions posted by others. Note that in addition to the topic-specific forums we have a Miscellaneous Discussion area where you can talk about almost anything you like.
All we ask of forum users is that you refrain from using obscenities (kids and straightlaced people use this site, too, you know) and avoid personal attacks on other users. Posts that violate these simple rules may be removed by Linux.com editors. However, we will never remove posts because we (or other readers) disagree with what they say. You are welcome to express any point of view you like, as long as it's reasonably on-topic -- and doesn't contain obscenities, personal attacks on other readers, and doesn't qualify as comment spam.
Some sections need more material to flesh them out. We're typing (and making video) like mad, and you are more than welcome to write and make video for Linux.com yourself. We are always looking for new writers -- and now video makers -- to contribute to the site. Please see our Writers Guidelines page for more information about writing for Linux.com, including a rough idea of how much we pay.
If you have any other questions, please post them here. As we said earlier, we will read every single comment and answer as many as we can.
As always, thanks for reading Linux.com. We hope you enjoy the new version as much as we've enjoyed making it for you.
Sincerely,
Linux.com Editors
