Many advanced users run Mint as a favorite distro. I don't think the question should be what distro is best for security as much as what packages will best serve your security desires. Distros such as Mint and Ubuntu are designed to have a small "footprint" so to speak, but most any flavor of Linux can be expanded to fulfill whatever needs you have.

U r fine with Mint 12. There is no reason to change with other Linux distro. Any Linux flavor has same capability (regarding GRUB) that holds the boot sequence with windows flavor. First u have to install Wind 7 and then install Mint, which has strong GRUB utility which helps to handle dual booting very smoothly.
