How do I print out a list of running Utilities and Programs etc, as found in top?

I need to print a list of running Programs and Utilities I have running. When I open top I can see some of them but I need to see them all and think if I print them it would be easiest... but copy/paste to a Text Editor is just as good.

try: $ ps -ef > process.txt

try:
$ ps -ef > process.txt

Thanks for these....

Thanks for these.
I will try it.

And I am running Linux MINT, but was running Ubuntu when I asked this... HOWEVER it is STILL relevant now.

Thanks again.

The ps command is probably more suited to what you seem to be trying to do....

Try 'ps aux' at prompt without the quotes.
'man ps' for more info
However, if you're set on using top here is how to send output to a file-

top -bn 1 > top.txt

b= batch mode
n 1 = number of iterations to output to file
top.txt= file for top to send output to.
