How do I save a backup of my current OS before installing Linux?
I need to find out what the file size of the OS is, then how to zip it and store it on a Flash Drive/SD Card for backup in case Linux turns out to be a flop.

There are several ways to do this. You can use a utility called Clonzilla (which works great) or you could shrink your Windows partition and do a dual boot or you can download Oracle Virtual box and build a virtual machine OR boot from a live CD and never install anything and give Linux a test run. Most distributions have live CD's or DVD's. My favorite is Ubuntu or Debian.
the great thing about a live DVD is once you have booted to it and you like what you see, they usually have an icon on the desktop that will let you install it directly. Just make sure you have backed up any data that you want to retain and restore later.
