How to Make a Windows 7 System a Dual-Boot Adding Linux?

Would someone please give me steps who knows how to Partition, Format [what format type], and Dual-Boot Windows 7 and Linux on the same drive.
I have a 2TB system drive with 1.75 TB free. I would like to split the drive in half for each OS.
I am considering Mint 17 Cinnamon Desktop, Ubuntu Desktop, or Zorin (paid version). Honestly not sure which to choose of these.
I am not very savvy with this so if you would be so kind to tell me a more step-by-step process it would be greatly appreciated.
My ultimate goal is to wean myself off of Windows completely and move to Linux, but I need to continue to work with what I know until I can make a more seamless switch.
Thank you for any help you can offer.
